FSRA 2014 vehicle

A variable-geometry intake manifold and the first aero package – “Road Arrow 2014” boasts the most significant innovations up to that point. A variable-geometry intake had existed as an idea throughout the 2013 season. In the end, the students found the solution to the last open question in designing such a system on a Ferrari model, in a museum near the Riccardo Paletti circuit, after the competition in Italy.

After a year of work, the result was a variable-geometry intake manifold with two servo motors adjusting the length of the 3D-printed intake runners. Although maximum engine power decreased, the engine ran more evenly and the car’s performance improved. The same year also saw the debut of the first aero package, made of glass fibre. Despite gaining wings, “Road Arrow 2014” was a full 18 kilograms lighter than its predecessor.
