Professor Dr. Aleksandar Veg, a fulltime professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Belgrade, tragically lost his life on the 24th June, when his glider crashed near Sremska Mitrovica.
Many students from the Faculty of Mehcanical Engineering knew Aleksandar Veg as a Mechatronics professor, but for members of Road Arrow, he will be remembered as the team mentor, a man whose long-term support held the team together.
From the very start, from the production of the first vehicle, Professor Veg helped students and supported them in the very best way. He never exaggerated in this, as he was aware that the point was for students to become self-dependent, accept responsibility and find a solution on their own. He guided them, advised them and aided when it was necessary. For years,he became the person who was there when you needed him the most. He knew how to make real engineers from students, and that made him happy, as happy as solely taking part in such a project. He was aware of all the worries and problems, but he loved working with the students throughout the entire year, watching the team grow. He traveled with the team and cheered on Road Arrow in Great Britain, Italy and the Czech Republic…
Professor Veg, along with some students, set the foundation for Road Arrow and that burden and responsibility which came later, he took with him and proudly presented it wherever he appeared. His word about the team was always respected and he never turned away from praising the students, but used every opportunity to highlight their accomplishments.
Beside his many obligations, he always made time to come to the workshop and talk to students, see how the project is coming along and help if necessary. He was respected by all members of the team, which has consisted of more than one hundred people from various faculties. He knew how to motivate students and in a few simple words, explain the enormity of this project, because he loved Road Arrow as much as the students did. He will be remembered as a great mentor by the entire team, but also a friend who shared the same enthusiasm and team spirit with them.
At the first meeting for the 2017 season, Professor Veg welcomed the new members. He spoke about how honorable it is to take part in a project like this and how proud he was about everything that was achieved. Towards the end, he said something that will forever be remembered. This project only makes sense if it is continued. All the hard work and effort put into Road Arrow from the beginning only make sense if this team stays intact and continues to develop and progress. This was his idea and this is what every team will do in the future. All future successes of the team will be dedicated to Professor Veg and an inexpressible gratitude for everything he has done for us. From his ideas, to works he left behind, the memory of Aleksandar Veg will live eternally and his name will never be forgotten!
